Gotham Wisconsin....But I didn't see Batman anywhere! But there was a small tavern named The Bat Cave. I didn't go inside..

The name Gotham came from Captain M.W. Gotham (1842-1902), the friend of one of the local store owners. Gotham died with his sons, Lucius and Myron, during a violent storm in the Great Lakes in 1902^.

November Rain

Early November Morning

Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, I am on my way to work in the dark.  I was just a bit late the other morning and this is what I saw on my way to the garage.  Well worth being a little later, and taking a couple of pictures.

Old Helena Cemetery

This cemetery is not visible from the road in the summer.  Helena in the mid-1850s was a thriving community, but when the railroad went through Spring Green instead of Helena, and the Shot Tower was no longer needed to produce lead shot, the area became an unincorporated area, and has fewer than 50 residents. 

Arena Main Street

Except for the muddy street, it looks about the same today.

Hyde Mill

Located in Hyde Wisconsin and is still working.  On the banks of Mill Creek, which runs around Coon Rock.

Unity Chapel and Graveyard

Unity Chapel near Taliesen.  The chapel and cemetery were part of the Lloyd/Jones (FLW's mother) Family Estate.  FLW was the draftsman and construction manager in 1886.  This was one of his first designs.

After leaving his wife and six children, Frank Lloyd Wright began a scandalous relationship with Mamah Cheney. Their relationship ended tragically when Mamah and her two children, along with four other people, were murdered at Taliesin. She was buried in the cemetery under a tree with a very small stone.  This is the Unity Chapel cemetery that Frank L Wright was buried in and most of his mother's family as well. The stone was a later addition, her grave was unmarked during most of FLW's life.

Brisbane House

Brisbane House

Dr. William Brisbane, a southerner, came to Arena with his family and servants in 1854.  He was convinced that slavery was wrong and freed all of his slaves, some of which accompanied him to Arena.  He built the 3 story stone Brisbane house which is presently owned and occupied by Inez learn, a member of the Arena Historians.
